Rafael Leao’s cryptic message on social media

Amid transfer rumors on Ibrahimovic’s potential arrival at AC Milan Rafael Leao posts a cryptic message on social media.

After a bright start Rafael Leao has faded into anonymity. The Portuguese 20-year-old striker has lost his spot in Stefano Pioli’s starting eleven, a decision reportedly influenced by his weak commitment in training. However, last summer AC Milan invested €25 million to sign Leao from Lille making him the most expensive summer signing.

On his Twitter profile the talented striker has published two emojis, without adding any words. An enigmatic post, strange in some ways. Two similar “heads” speaking. What does it mean? Is it a transfer market signal? Given the possible arrival of Ibrahimovic, and the permanence of Piatek, how much space will he have in the team for the remaining of the season?

There is so much mystery around the young striker, because he has great qualities that we have already glimpsed at the beginning of the season. Leao is probably also paying for the team’s problems. The Rossoneri up until two weeks ago could neither score nor consequently achieve satisfactory results. With Parma he played only in the final moments, without affecting particularly. While against Bologna the former Lille remained for the entire 90 minutes on the bench.

The fans unhappy with his recent performances are pointing out the finger at Leao’s lack of commitment: “Think about training. And shut up“, is a common message on his social media. Advice also on his posture: “Stop walking on the pitch“. Others cite Gattuso: “You have to bring out the grinta“, which may be exactly what Stefano Pioli is asking from Leao, perhaps using different words.

Serie A has constantly proven a tough nut to crack for talented youngsters, especially on their first year. With AC Milan deeply disappointing expectations this season no one could have asked Leao to save the squad but the Rossoneri are still convinced that the Portuguese has what it takes. Perhaps Ibra will give Leao a special treatment to help him “wake up”.
