Repubblica: AC Milan’s transfer budget is lower than everyone feared

AC Milan will reportedly have a very low transfer budget this summer and will have to be creative on the market.

AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale decided to fire Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara in a controversial move that continues to create a lot of noise in the present days as well. It was a sensational decision but something to be expected considering the continues clashes between Paolo Maldini and Gerry Cardinale.

After winning the Serie A title, reaching the Champions semi-final and qualifying in Champions for three consecutive years, Maldini believed that AC Milan needed to take the squad to the next level and required bigger investments. On the other hand, Cardinale and his followers insisted on the suitability path of inexpensive signings.

Another factor that created much dissatisfaction to Maldini was the summer transfer budget. La Repubblica revels that the budget for the upcoming transfer window is only €35 million, even less than the rumored €45 million figure. In a meeting during the last weeks CEO Giorgio Furlani communicated to Maldini that AC Milan would be spending only €35 million plus earnings from player sales.

Such a report is reinforced from the first moves that the new club management is taking on the market. So far, Milan are being linked only with players that are available on a free transfers. Players like Youri Tielemans, Evan Ndicka, Reiss Nelson or Marcus Thuram. Apparently Milan will have to dive on the free agents market having to compensate for their low budget.

It will be interesting to see what Furlani and Moncada will be able to create this summer but it is looking increasingly likely that the Red and Black fans again will not see marque signings any time soon. Such a big difference of visions for the future of the club made the coexistence of Maldini and Cardinale impossible.
