Rino Gattuso’s first words as AC Milan coach

Gennaro Gattuso’s words at his debut press conference as first team coach: “It’s an important day and I feel great responsibility”.

Gennaro Gattuso’s press conference as first team coach took place at Milanello today, together with Sporting Director Massimiliano Mirabelli and CEO Marco Fassone, who introduced the new coach: “Gennaro Gattuso is not a stopgap. Appointing him as new coach was the best decision to take. He knows this Club better than anyone else and since his return, he has done really well. It’s a new chapter of our campaign which can now lead us to look at the future with optimism. We are confident he’ll do well and that he will be able to make the most of this opportunity. We’ll draw the line at the end of the season”. The CEO also wanted to confirm how the club believes in the choice of appointing Massimiliano Mirabelli as Sporting Director: “He was my first choice and I fully believe in him. He has great technical responsibilities”. And the Sporting Director Massimiliano Mirabelli had his say on the new AC Milan course: “Montella to us was and still is a very good coach. Results haven’t been that positive, unfortunately, that’s why we decided to make a change. Let’s hope to put this start to the season behind and start a new chapter”.

It was then time for a visibly touched Rino to express all his satisfaction for this “great opportunity“.

ON HIS FIRST DAY
“It’s an important day and I feel lots of responsibility. I am fully convinced I have a great squad, with lots of internationals and young players. This is a difficult time for us, but I am positive there’s everything we need to do well.

ON THE TEAM
“I think we’ll play in a 3-man defence. Montella? I have a great relationship with him, although we have different styles of play. He prefers to keep possession and move the ball around as I prefer to paly more vertical.

THE TABLE
“I want to think match after match. We have to focus on the next game at Benevento, and we have to think of this meeting as if it were a Champions League final. My priority is to work on the psychological aspect of this team.

GOAL DROUGHT
“My teams have always conceded few goals although we haven’t scored much. We have already started working on the team’s goal drought. We had many scoring opportunities against Torino.

PRIMAVERA
“The boys of the Primavera are really great people, it was an important team. It was really sad to leave the boys, I have never had a single problem with them. I would really have liked to finish my work there. I want to thank them because I’ve learnt a lot from them”.
