Romagnoli is AC Milan highest paid player with whopping salary

AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli is the highest paid player in the squad. The Italian defender earns a whopping amount despite not being a regular.

Alessio Romagnoli renewed his contract with AC Milan in early summer 2018, when the club was not doing well due to the financial woes of then-president Yonghong Li. Despite the club’s difficult moment, Massimiliano Mirabelli and Marco Fassone managed to find an agreement for the contract extension. The defender’s choice was appreciated because maybe someone else in his place would have preferred to leave in a scenario of uncertainties like that.

Obviously the renewal of the contract provided for a hefty increase in salary. Romagnoli went from earning about 2 million net per seasons to 3.5 million. A nice adjustment. However, that was just for the first year and the agreement offered Romangoli an increase year over year.

Journalist Nicolo Schira reveals that today Alessio Romagnoli is AC Milan’s highest paid player with 5 million euros net per season. In addition, he receives 500,000 euros in bonuses in the event of qualification for the Champions League and another 500,000 linked to personal goals. Therefore, in a good year Romagnoli is paid €6 million per season.

It should be remembered that the player’s agent at the time of the renewal was Sergio Berti, only in October-November 2019 Romangoli joined the team of Mino Raiola. AC Milan do not have exceptional relations with the latter and there seems to be no room for a new contract extension for Romagnoli. Even if the agent’s name was different the Rossoneri can’t afford to have their highest earner a back-up player.

The AC Milan captain lost his regular status in Pioli’s eleven after the arrival of Fikayo Tomori. AC Milan invested 31 million in the former Chelsea defender who forms the central duo with Simon Kjaer. The management would be willing to negotiate only if Romagnoli halves his salary. His departure on a free transfer remains the most likely option so far.
