Pioli chooses starting XI for Salernitana vs Milan

AC Milan start the new year in need of points. The Rossoneri will face Salernitana in the first 2023 Serie A match.

Serie A returns on Wednesday and Salernitana vs Milan will be the opening match of round 16. Stefano Pioli’s squad has suffered a horrendous period in December between lost friendly matches and many injuries. The Rossoneri need to react and back bouce considering tomorrow’s direct encounter between Inter and Napoli.

Coach Pioli is forced to change his formation plans for Salernitana vs Milan following the injuries of Ballo-Toure, Dest and Rebic. Despite only returning to Milanello a few days ago, Theo Hernandez will start on the left with Davide Calabria back on the right. Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori will form the central duo. Tatarusanu is tasked to protect the goal after Mirente’s disappointing display.

Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer used the World Cup time to regain their strength because their respective national teams were absent in Qatar. Both will start from the first minute against Salernitana.

Ante Rebic was supposed to lead the attack but he will not be available for at least one week after his injury with PSV. Charles De Ketelaere was considered in the false nine position but the Belgian does not offer the necessary guarantees due to his lack of form. Once again, Giroud is asked to work overtime.

The attacking trio in support of the French striker will be composed by Rafael Leao, Brahim Diaz and Alexis Saelemaekers. The Belgian returns to play for the first time since October following his knee injury.

SALERNITANA Probable XI (3-5-2): Ochoa, Bronn, Daniliuc, Fazio, Sambia, Coulibaly, Bohinen, Vilhena, Bradaric, Dia, Piatek.

AC MILAN Probable XI (4-2-3-1): Tatarusanu, Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Theo Hernandez, Tonali, Bennacer, Saelemaekers, Brahim, Leao, Giroud.
