Sky: AC Milan reach agreement to sign ex Roma defender

AC Milan and Basel have reached an agreement. The Italian 21-year-old will be the back up of Theo Hernandez for next season.

AC Milan have invested a lot on the market spending over 120 million for eight signings. The Rossoneri have revamped their midfield and have improved the attack considerably with names like Chukwueze, Pulisic and Okafor. However, the only department that hasn’t seen any new entries is the defence.

Nevertheless, the situation is about to change in the back line as well. AC Milan are looking to bring in a new left back and sell Fode Ballo-Toure. The Rossoneri had already reached an agreement with Fulham and were left furious after Ballo-Toure rejected the transfer to the Premier League. Now the Senegal international is destined to choose between Bologna and Werder Bremen.

In the meantime the Rossoneri have already blocked his replacement. Sky Sport reports that AC Milan have reached an agreement to sign Riccardo Calafiori. The Italian left back will arrive on loan from Basel after Milan complete the exit of Ballo-Toure. Milan will also have an option to make the transfer of Calafiori permanent.

Calafiori was one of Roma’s highly rated talents. After having made 18 appearances with Roma’s first team the 21-year-old defender decided to move to Basel to player regular football. In his first season in Switzerland, Riccardo Calafiori made 34 appearances with Basel scoring one goal and providing three assists.

The management has decided not to make a big investment for Theo Hernandez’s back up because they have high expectations for academy player Davide Bartesaghi reports Sky Sport. Bartesaghi is a key player of AC Milan Under-19 squad. The Rossoneri believe that the 17-year-old will make the leap to the first team in a few seasons.
