Top 10 AC Milan homegrown talents of the last decade

From Donnarumma to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang here are the top 10 talents of AC Milan’s youth ranks in the last decade.

AC Milan youth ranks have produced some great talents in recent years even though many of those youngsters currently play for other clubs. Today Tuttosport reveals the top 10 Rossoneri talents of the last decade. When the crisis hit Italian football, former AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi, and his right hand Adriano Galliani, paid close attention to the development of home grown players.

However, only three former Primavera players continue to grace the San Siro stadium. Gigio Donnarumma became the first-choice between the posts since he was 16-years-old. Rarely has Milan, and Italian football in general, seen such a magnificent talent showcase his skills in such a young age. Despite being just 20, Donnarumma has made over 160 appearances with AC Milan. The kid is on his way to break every record with the Red and Black jersey.

Gigio’s old teammates also joined him in the first-team. Davide Calabria, Patrick Cutrone and Manuel Locatelli too made the jump from Primavera to AC Milan’s first team but unfortunately only the Italian right-back remains at the Rososneri. Locatelli was sold to Sassuolo last year while this summer Cutrone joined Wolverhampton for an initial fee of €18 million.

Other players have remained in Italy playing for different Serie A clubs. Cristante plays for Roma, Petagna is at Spal, De Sciglio at Juventus, Verdi at Torino while Mastalli plays in Serie B with Juve Stabia. The most illustrious name on this list is of course Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Arsenal striker was promoted to the first team in 2008 after impressing as a member of the club’s youth setup but he never featured for Milan. The Rossoneri loaned him several times until his permanent transfer to Saint-Etienne in 2012 for nearly €2 million. Aubameyang has been a goal scoring machine ever since and last year he joined Arsenal for a club record fee of 64 million.
