AC Milan agree terms with Italian defender

AC Milan are looking for alternatives after failing to land Botman. The Rossoneri could sign the Lazio defender instead.

AC Milan lost Sven Botman despite having courted him for more than six months. Tired of waiting AC Milan for so long to close a deal with Lille, the Dutch international decided to accept a lucrative offer from Newcastle United. The Rossoneri are now looking around for alternatives because a new defender will arrive nevertheless.

In recent days, Francesco Acerbi has been linked with a potential move to AC Milan. It would be a sensational return at San Siro for the Italy international who was part of the Rossoneri’s squad in the first half of the 2012/2013 season. 

Corriere della Sera reports that the Rossoneri have accelerated talks with the Lazio centre back. AC Milan have agreement personal terms with Francesco Acerbi over a two-year contract according to the Italian newspaper. Lazio are open to sell their veteran defender this summer after a couple of clashes with president Lottito and the fans.

Lazio president, Claudio Lotito, wants to sell the 34-year-old centre back and replace him with Alessio Romagnoli. The AC Milan captain is available on a free transfer after refusing to extend his contract with the Italian champions. Lazio plan to save approximately 2.5 million euros per season that Acerbi receives and give Romagnoli the 3 million salary he has requested.

Lazio are asking a fee of €4 million in order to part ways with Acerbi. Francesco has been one of the most reliable defenders since joining Lazio in 2018. Acerbi ended last season with 4 goals and 2 assists in 36 appearances with the Biancocelesti. He has made 25 appearances with the Italian national team, featuring a lot in the last three years under Mancini.
