Gds: AC Milan in negotiations for German defender

AC Milan continue to work for a new defender with Schalke centre back Malick Thiaw the new name on the Rossoneri’s radar reports Gazzetta.

AC Milan will announce the signing of Marko Lazetic shortly. After Lazetic, the Rossoneri need to wrap up the work for a new centre back. The management has decided against signing an important name and instead bring in a young defender.

It was impossible to persuade Lille to part ways with Sven Botman in January (he will be available in the summer) while Diallo and Bailly are not considered convincing alternatives. Schalke 04 centre back Malick Thiaw is a new name on AC Milan’s radar.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Schalke rate Malick Thiaw around 5 million euros. The 20-year-old Germand defender has made 20 appearances in Bundesliga 2 so far being a regular starter in every match. In the previous season, Thiaw had also racked up 22 Bundesliga appearances.

Journalist Nicolo Schira reports that Gordon Stipic, the agent of Hakan Calhanoglu, has offered Malick Thiaw to AC Milan. The German agent is trying to repair his relationship with the Rossoneri after what happened during the summer with the passage of Calhanoglu to Inter on a free transfer.

Besides Thiaw, the other players of similar profile that AC Milan are following are Nicolo Casale, Maxime Esteve and Arthur Theate. Casale is doing really well with Hellas Verona and is a wanted man by Lazio while Theate has impressed in his first season with Bologna. Esteve was doing equally well with Montpellier until his injury.
