AC Milan complete striker signing after Tonali exit

AC Milan have closed an agreement to sign Marcus Thuram on a five-year contract immediately after Tonali’s exit.

AC Milan have just completed the sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle for a fee of around €80 million. It’s a record breaking transfer fee for both clubs. Also, Sandro Tonali becomes the most expensive Italian player in history. Now the Rossoneri are using that money to close agreements that were left pending like for Marcus Thuram.

Journalist Nicolo Schira repots that AC Milan have completed the signing of Marcus Thuram on a free transfers. The French striker has accepted a five-year contract until 2028 with of €5 million per season plus add-ons. The 25-year-old is set to become AC Milan’s highest earner in the squad after Rafael Leao.

The France international has also informed Paris Saint-Germain that he will not be joining them. In reality, Thuram was never the priority target of PSG with Luis Enrique pushing for Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen instead. Thuram will join his France national teammate Olivier Giroud at AC Milan.

The signing of Marcus Thuram on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach represents a novelty for AC Milan. The Rossoneri had stayed away from such operations in the past and were losing players as free agents like Donnarumma, Calhanoglu or Kessie. Thuram has been a key player for Borussia Monchengladbach since his move in 2019.

Thuram made 32 appearances in the current season, scoring 16 goals and providing 7 assists. Marcus participated in the Qatar World Cup with the France national team that reached the final. Despite his feeling with the goal, the 25-year-old has never reached 20 goals in a season. Another issue is that he’s not a typical cntre forward, mostly starting his movements on the left wing.
