AC Milan offered very rich contract to Ciro Immobile: backstory

AC Milan were in discussions to sign Lazio star striker Ciro Immobile during the summer but negotiations fell through in the end.

On Sunday Lazio host AC Milan at the Olimpico stadium. It’s a direct challenge between two squad that fight for a spot in the next Champions League campaign. A match of great importance for both sides who are currently separated by only one point at the standings.

Ciro Immobile is going to be the number one danger for Gigio Donnarumma’s goal. Since joining Lazio the Italy international has been in scintillating form and this season is no exception. Immobile so far has scored 9 goals and has provided 5 assists in 16 appearances for the Biancocelesti. The Italian goal machine could have graced San Siro this year instead of Olimpico.

Il Corriere dello Sport (a source very close to both Rome clubs) reveals that Ciro Immobile was in fact AC Milan’s first pick during the summer. The Rossoneri management wanted to make him summer’s big purchase and had opened negotiations with the player.

AC Milan had offered 7,5 million euros per season to Immobile. A salary that would have made him AC Milan highest earner and third in the league. In the end it was the player himself to refuse before the Red and Black could start dealing with Lazio president, Claudio Lotito.

Ciro preferred to remain in Rome under Inzaghi’s orders and renew his contract with Lazio until 2023. He now earns “only” 3 million euros. However the 28 year old striker is very attached to Lazio and the idol of the Biancocelesti fans. No regrets for the Rossoneri who managed to bring at San Siro a top levels striker like Gonzalo Higuain.
