AC Milan outcast key to midfielder signing

AC Milan are the favorite Italian club to sign Papu Gomez and a deal with Atalanta would be easy to reach because of past business.

Atalanta fans and Italian football in general were shocked to learn about the tense clash between team star Papu Gomez and coach Gian Piero Gasperini. The sale of the 32-year-old attacking midfielder is just a matter of time and AC Milan could be his next destination.

According to Tuttosport (via MilanLive.it), AC Milan are the favorite Italian club to land Gomez. In particular, the Rossoneri could accelerate if the negotiations for the renewal of Hakan Calhanoglu do not go through.

In addition, a deal between AC Milan and Atalanta would be easy to reach. Atalanta value Papu around 15 million euros. That’s the exact same fee Atalanta should pay to the Rossoneri for the permanent transfer of Mattia Caldara. Caldara joined Atalanta on loan for 18 months. In this way, Milan seems to have a preferential lane for Gomez.

Nevertheless, there is no lack of competition for Papu. Inter are interested in the Argentine number 10. As well as PSG, given the sponsorship of friend and compatriot Di Maria.

Arab club Al-Nasr recently offered the skilled attacking midfielder a rich contract of 7 million euros per season but Papu Gomez refused. For family reasons, he prefers to continue his career in Italy.
