Boca Juniors star agents meet Leonardo at Casa Milan

With Fabregas likely headed to Monaco, AC Milan have targeted Boca Juniors star Wilmar Barrios as the potential signing in midfield.

A striker and a midfielder, AC Milan’s double mission in January. Anything but simple considering that UEFA is monitoring the spending of the club in detail and has forced the Rossoneri to move on the market with an extremely limited budget. Il Corriere dello Sport reports that the latest idea for the midfield of AC Milan is Wilmar Barrios of Boca Juniors.

AC Milan will make a serious attempt for the 25 year old Colombian. According to the Italian newspaper sporting director Leonardo met with the agent of Wilmar Barrios at Casa Milan. With Luis Muriel announced as the new striker of Fiorentina, Milan risk losing even Cesc Fabregas, forced by UEFA to chase cheaper transfer targets for the midfield.

However the situation for the South American is not simple. In fact, the player has a 25 million euros release clause, but that good news is that Boca Juniors have put him on the market. Leonardo, who always has a preference for the Latin American players, wants to try considering that Barrios fits perfectly the parameters of the player sought in midfield.

The Colombia international can also play as defensive midfielder. The will of Boca Juniors to negotiate could facilitate a potential transfer. The alternative to Wilmar Barrios is Jordan Veretout of Fiorentina. The Rossoneri have not opened talks because of the high price Fiorentina have put on the player that exceeds 25 million.
