AC Milan end the January mercato with 5 exits and 2 signings

AC Milan were not very active during the January window completing only two signings while five players have departed.

The January transfer window that has just closed was one of little satisfaction for the Red and Black fans. Unlike Juventus and Inter who secured important names, AC Milan continued with the traditional transfer philosophy avoiding significant investments in January and focusing all their efforts for the upcoming summer window.

Here are the official transfers of AC Milan in January, both in and out:

DEPARTURES

Andrea Conti: The Rossoneri full-back has left six months before his contract with AC Milan expired. The Italian right back joined Sampdoria on a free transfer. A heartbreaking end for a player that was expected reach the top upon his €24 million transfer from Atalanta.

Milos Kerkez: Another player that failed to meet expectations. AC Milan were confident that Kerkez would be the long-term heir of Theo Hernandez. However, the 18-year-old left back was sold exactly one year after his arrival. Kerkez will continue his career in Netherlands after AZ Alkmaar paid €2 million for his services.

Alessandro Plizzari: The young Rossoneri will spend the rest of the season on loan at Lecce. Alessandro Plizzari has just recovered after a muscle injury that prevented him from playing his chances during Mike Maignan’s absence. The Italy-21 international needs to play more in order to find his best form.

Frank Tsadjout: The 22-year-old striker spent the first half of the season at Pordenone but his spell was cut short. AC Milan have decided to send Tsadjout at Ascoli on loan for the remaining of the season. Ascoli will have a buy option with AC Milan retaining a buy-back option.

Pietro Pellegri: During the summer AC Milan decided to get a young striker to partner with Ibrahimovic and Giroud. Pellegri found little space in Stefano Pioli’s side with injuries preventing him on a number of occasions. Pellegri’s loan was cut short and the Italian striker will play for Torino in the second half of the season.

SIGNINGS

Marko Lazetic: AC Milan have signed Lazetic from Red Star Belgrade for a fee of €5 million to take Pellegri’s place. The Rossoneri scouts were greatly impressed by the talent of the young Serbia striker. Maldini and Massara believe Lazetic could have a bright future at San Siro.

Cathal Heffernan: The last January signing of the Rossoneri was another youngster. AC Milan have signed 16-year-old centre back Cathal Heffernan on loan with an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season. Heffernan arrives from Corky City and is the captain of Ireland Under-17. He will join the Primavera squad.
