Tottenham offered swap deal to AC Milan

AC Milan were offered a swap deal between Franck Kessie and Tanguy Ndombele but Tottenham’s offer was rejected.

Disappointingly, AC Milan’s January campaign will be closed with just one signing. Just like in the past the Rossoneri have avoided doing important business during the winter mercato. Nevertheless, AC Milan could have completed a sensational swap deal with Tottenham Hotspur.

Tuttomercatoweb reports that AC Milan were approached by Tottenham sporting director, Fabio Paratici, a few weeks ago. The English club are very interested in AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie and at the same time they wanted to offload Tanguy Ndombele. Tottenham proposed a swap deal between Kessie and Ndombele that was rejected by AC Milan.

The Ivorian is set to leave the Rossoneri as a free agent in six months. Ndombele , on the other hand, was little appreciated by coach Antonio Conte. A swap that suited all parties, at least on paper. However, the cost of signing Ndombele was really high for the Rossoneri and he ended up returning to Lyon.

The France international earns over 12 million euros per season. That’s way too much for the Rossoneri who have refused to give Kessie more than €6.5 million. Besides Ndombele’s salary there was another reason why AC Milan rejected the deal.

Milan don’t want to lose a player that is a regular starter in a time when the squad is fighting for the Scudetto. A new midfielder would require time to settle in. In addition, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara still have a faint hope that Kessie could make a U-turn and extend his contract with the Red and Blacks.
