Albertini: “The future of Milan rests on three players”

Former midfielder Demetrio Albertini explains that AC Milan’s future success will depend on the presence of three Rossoneri players.

AC Milan legend Demetrio Albertini has released a beautiful and detailed interview for La Gazzetta dello Sport. The former star midfielder touched on several issues concerning the Rossoneri squad. Albertini’s statements on Rafael Leao show how important and essential the renewal of the Portuguese is for the club and the whole team.

According to Demetrio, Leao is a different player from everyone else, and the renewal issue must be handled in a distinctly different way than what happened in the past with Gianlugi Donnarumma, Hakan Calhanoglu and Franck Kessie. The reason is simple according to Albertini:

For Leao there is a fundamental rule on the transfer market: you can make a mistake in buying a player, but you cannot make a mistake in selling. Milan were able to replace Donnarumma, with Mike Maignan who proved to be extraordinary, but at the moment it is hard to find a player around who has the same skills as Leao”.

AC Milan are already at work to extend the contract of Leao for five more years. The Rossoneri are rumored to offer the left winger a salary of €5 million per season plus the payment of the entire fine he owes to Sporting Lisbon. Albertini underline how the success of Milan in the years to come will depend on the presence of three players.

Leao, Tonali and De Ketelaere are the future of the team“. Probably, Demetrio Albertini forgot to mention Theo Hernandez but he has a lot of faith in the Belgian attacking midfielder. Despite the critics, the former midfielder is fully confident that De Ketelaere will succeed at San Siro in the future.
