All the mistakes of Gattuso against Napoli

AC Milan offered an excellent display for 60 minutes yesterday but crumbled in the end with Napoli taking home the three points. A defeat that has left a bitter taste.

The initial advantage of two goals was not enough for AC Milan to get out of the San Paolo stadium with three points. Napoli won thanks to a spectacular comeback, started by Piotr Zielinski and completed by Dries Mertens.

Many fans on social media have targeted certain players and also Gennaro Gattuso for some choices that did not convince. Also for Sportmediaset, the AC Milan technician has his contribution in yesterdays stunning defeat, beginning with the choices of the starting lineup. The deployment of Fabio Borini from the first minute in attack and that of Giacomo Bonaventura in midfield immediately gave a signal of “surrender”: they are stronger but we will cover each other and try to counter-attack.

But then the goal of the advantage came and AC Milan started managing possession as if there were a few minutes left until the end of the match. Among other things, a ball possession in very dangerous areas in defense. The first mistake, therefore, according to Sportmediaset, lies in the initial choices, more conservative than offensive.

The entrance of Tiemoue Bakayoko in the role of central midfielder, should have given more protection to Lucas Biglia. Speaking of the Argentine, he and Mateo Musacchio set the table for Zielinski’s first goal. And the second mistake of Gattuso is right after this episode: he chooses to take out Biglia, putting the cross on him, and throws in an interdictor like Bakayoko. By removing a ball handler, the coach has transferred to the team the fear of being overturned. An error repeated even after 2-2 equalizer with the entrance of a conservative winger such as Diego Laxalt and not Samu Castillejo, who could have forced Napoli more in defense. The icing on the cake was the substitution of Patrick Cutrone with Giacomo Bonaventura, the only man of quality in midfield.
