Castillejo stance is blocking AC Milan’s mercato

AC Milan had hoped to sign a new right winger before the end of the mercato but their efforts are blocked by Samuel Castillejo’s desire to stay.

AC Milan’s outgoing mercato is getting complicated. In the last two days the Rossoneri were in advanced talks to finalize the departure of Samuel Castillejo and Daniel Maldini. However, talks for the two players broke down and the two are likely to end the season at AC Milan.

Valencia were interested in Samuel Castillejo. The Spanish club wanted to sign the 27-year-old right winger on loan with an option to buy but are now turning their attention on Tottenham’s Bryan Gil.

The Rossoneri number 7 was not convinced of joining Valencia because of the lack of guarantees regarding the playing time he would receive at Valencia. That was the second destination Castillejo had refused after saying no to Sampdoria.

This situation has put AC Milan at a tight corner. The Rossoneri wanted to sign a right winger during the January transfer window but apparently that will not be the case. AC Milan have held talks with Juventus winger Dejan Kulusevski but unless Samu leaves there is no room to maneuver.

The Juventus right winger is looking to find a new club after the signing of Dusan Vlahovic by the Bianconeri. With just two days until the end of the mercato, and Samu still in the squad, the shopping campaign of the Rossoneri is and will likely remain blocked.
