Gattuso: “We are not a team. Resignation?”

AC Milan reach a new low point with a 0-2 home defeat against Atalanta. Coach Gennaro Gattuso reacted after today’s disappointing performance.

Gennaro Gattuso, at the end of Milan-Atalanta, has released the following statements for the microphones of Premium Sport: “So many things worked, at the beginning the game we played well. But we conceded and the field became uphill. In the second half we tried, but it was not enough. We are always trying to explain why the episodes condemn us, but we ourselves look for these unfavorable episodes by making mistakes. We are not a team. In times of difficulty we fail to react, it is a fact. It is not the fault of individual players.”

Meeting with the managers at the end of the game? “It’s a complicated situation, there is the protest of the fans: we can not continue the season in this way. But I do not see players who do not commit: I see people doing crazy work, but it is clear that we are a fragile team. Reassurances on my role? Today I am the coach of Milan, but I am the last of the problems: today the problem is not only the condition, but there is also the mental component. What we are doing is not enough, we have to become a team and to do that we have to make fewer mistakes, because we make a lot of mistakes”.

Resignation? “If I thought that the problem is me, if I saw that the players do not follow me… We lack hunger, aggressivity, grit. Donnarumma not irreproachable on the first goal? When you concede goals it’s everyone’s fault. We must also stop making comparisons with the past: there were different players, a different club. Now we must think about the present, a present full of difficulties from which we must try to get out all together”.
