Gazzetta: Cagliari 1-1 AC Milan, player ratings

Gonzalo Higuain scored his first goal for AC Milan but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to secure the three points against Cagliari.

It remains to be seen if the result was a consequence of the fatigue some players had accumulated in their international commitments or just a false step. However the case the Rossoneri fail to exploit the early mistakes of both Roma and Inter, direct rivals for a place in the top 4. A good opportunity lost for AC Milan as Gennaro Gattuso’s squad doesn’t go beyond a 1-1 draw against Cagliari at Sardegna Arena,

As usual La Gazzetta dello Sport has published the ratings for yesterday’s performers. Surprisingly, La Gazzetta has chosen Suso (7) as the best among the Rossoneri yesterday. The Spaniard offered more continuity than his teammates and could have won the match for Milan had he been more accurate. Follows closely the Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain with 6,5. The 30 year old AC Milan star looks well ahead of his teammates in preparation and mentality and the game against Cagliari was the umpteenth proof of it. El Pipita is an added value for the Red and Blacks this season.

In defense things were good on the wings with Calabria (6,5) pushing a lot forward on the right while Rodriguez could have done better on the left, 6 for the Swiss full back. The central duo was Romagnoli (5), Musacchio (5,5) and goalkeeper Donnarumma (5,5) were simply disastrous yesterday. The three are considered guilty for the opening goal of Cagliari. Gigio could have saved it, the Argentine was not marking well Joao Pedro while the captain had lost Pavoletti.

6,5 for Kessie who seemed the more lucid in midfield. Lucas Biglia was not bad (6), while Bakayoko and Castillejo, both 6, did very good in their few minutes on the pitch. Hakan Calhanoglu and Giacomo Bonaventura, both 5, offered a very disappointing performance. An anonymous display for the Turkey international while the Italian makes so many mistakes that’s impossibly to count.
