Luis Campos: The man who could replace Leonardo as Milan sporting director

Elliot wants Lille sporting director Luis Campos to replace Leonardo at AC Milan. The Portuguese director is one of the most wanted in Europe.

MILAN NEWS – Something within the company organization chart of AC Milan could change for next season. The latest rumors reveal interesting updates regarding the role of sporting director currently occupied by Leonardo. The Rossoneri are trying to lure one of the most important sporting directors in the European football scene. Luis Campos, sporting director of French club Lille is a highly esteemed person for his extensive technical and football knowledge. A former scout of Real Madrid, Luis Campos worked at Monaco from 2013 to 2016 and is credited as the man who discovered Kylian Mbappe and interrupted the hegemony of PSG in France.

It seems like Milan owners Elliot are big fans of Luis Campos with whom the American ownership has collaborated in the past. Last year, when Lille was on the brink of bankruptcy and risked relegation, Elliot loaned 117 million euros to the French club. A few months later and now Lille are second in Ligue 1 standings, have qualified for Champions League and enjoy the performances of Nicolas Pepe, one of the brightest attacking talents in the world (also a transfer target of AC Milan).

Elliot wants to add a more experienced figure in the club management besides Leonardo and Paolo Maldini. If Luis Campos becomes the new sporting director of AC Milan that doesn’t necessarily mean the end of Leonardo at San Siro. The Brazilian should remain as technical director of the club but with limited responsibilities on the transfer market.

The potential arrival of Luis Campos could help Milan strengthen their relationship with Jorge Mendes. The famous Portuguese agent is a close friend of Campos reveals La Gazzetta dello Sport. Lille president Gerard Lopez confirmed this rumors in an interview for Le Parisien.

“Luis has received big offers from clubs like Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Roma. For me, he is the best sporting director in the world. He will hopefully be at Lille next season and will remain here for a long time, he totally believes in this project. He demonstrated this by rejecting this type of offers. He is a builder and has an exceptional scouting team. He is also able to assist the players he discovers”.
