Milan favorites to sign Lucas Lima of Santos

Milan are preparing carefully the January transfer window. Massimiliano Mirabelli and Vincenzo Montella reason together on possible moves to complete the current group.

The Rossoneri need a midfielder who can replace Franck Kessie. The profiles of Seko Fofana and Jakub Jankto of Udinese, but also Alfred Duncan of Sassuolo have been scouted lately (read here). But Milan are not concentrated just in midfield. In the team there are a few wingers (the reason why Montella decided to ditch the 4-3-3) and something will be done to fill this void as well.

Mirabelli and his staff are very active in the South American countries, and particularly in Brazil. And in fact, as reported today by UOL Esporte, Milan are in pole position for Lucas Lima of Santos. The player’s contract expires on 31 December this year and he can be free to join any team in January. According to the Brazilian portal, the rossoneri would be the most likely destination for the future of the attacking midfielder, who can cover different areas playing as trequartista or left and right winger.

There have already been positive contacts with Lima’s agent, who is also followed by Palmeiras. But the player’s goal is to land in Europe. He is 27 years old and feels ready for the big step, that is why he, for the moment, has excluded the contract renewal hypothesis, something that he might have considered if no concrete offers were received.

Lucas Lima is a very interesting profile from a technical point of view. He is no longer young and has no experience in the Old Continent. But he’s agile and skillful in dribbling, essential qualities a winger. Montella, however, prefers that his wingers can guarantee ten to fifteen goals per season: The Brazilian, in 110 games with Santos, has scored only 10 (17 in his career if counting the 7 goals scored with Recife). He is best known as an assist-man and with Santos he has provided 24 goal-assist.
