Long meeting between Leonardo and Maldini: the details

The two back-to-back defeats against Inter and Betis have worried the AC Milan management. Leonardo and Maldini met today to analyze the problems.

AC Milan are going through a very difficult period as demonstrated by the insufficient performances and the latest results between Serie A and Europa League. It’s only the beginning of the season and we should not exaggerate with criticism but the inability to make a quality leap forward is worrying and evident.

Gennaro Gattuso’s squad has stumbled in two consecutive defeats after the return from international duty. First in the derby last Sunday with Inter and then yesterday against Real Betis in Europa League. It is urgent to find a solution and raise the morale of the group or else the Rossoneri risk compromising both the race to qualify for Champions League and the current European campaign.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports about a very long meeting at Milanello today between the two top managers of the club, the director of the technical area Leonardo and the sporting strategy & development director Paolo Maldini. The two former footballers, true Milan legends, met to exchange views not only on the latest negative results but in general on past and future strategies to improve the performance of the Rossoneri team.

Important and drastic decisions are expected soon despite the management’s temporary decision to continue ahead with Gattuso. The position of Rino as AC Milan coach is in doubt however the Rossoneri leaders don’t want to hurry and will wait to see the reaction of the team against Sampdoria on Sunday. Another unfavorable result would seal Gattuso’s fate.
