Spanish player was AC Milan’s last summer signing

AC Milan had agreed to make Spanish defender Nacho Fernandez their last summer signing but the deal collapsed at the very last moments.

On the last day of the summer transfer window, AC Milan tried to complete the signing of one central defender to enrich the squad. The Rossoneri negotiated for the young French talent Simakan, for the Turkish international Ozan Kabak and even for Chelsea outcast Antonio Rudiger.

However, just a few hours before the end of the mercato it was Spanish Nacho Fernandez of Real Madrid who was about to join AC Milan. An agreement was reached between all parties but the transfer was blocked in the very final moments.

Calciomercato reports that Real Madrid were open to sell Nacho, so much so that they had offered him in Italy to several teams. AC Milan had therefore identified him as a useful reinforcement, especially for the tactical flexibility of the 30-year-old who could cover every role in the back four.

The transfer fell through due to injuries at Los Blancos home. In fact, over the weekend, Real Madrid lost two full-backs in a single day namely Carvajal and Odriozola. It is therefore impossible to hypothesize Nacho’s farewell just hours before the market closed and with Real unable to find a replacement.

Nacho Fernandez has played his entire career with Real Madrid and has a contract until 2022. The 22 times capped Spanish defender has over 200 appearances with Los Blancos.
