Leonardo to leave Milan: the reasons for the separation

AC Milan sporting director Leonardo will leave the Rossoneri at the end of the season due to continuous clashes with Ivan Gazidis. Luis Campos is set to take his role.

The departure of Leonardo should be taken for granted at this point. Il Corriere della Sera reports that the Brazilian sporting director will leave AC Milan at the end of the season. Lille mastermind, Luis Campos, will be the new AC Milan sporting director.

According to the Italian newspaper, despite Elliot’s good will to continue with Leonardo, the Brazilian and Milan will part ways very soon. The motive behind Leo’s departure, is his continuous clash of opinions with AC Milan new CEO Ivan Gazidis.

The differences between the two first emerged in December when Leonardo had practically closed the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Diego Godin. The AC Milan sporting director believed that Ibrahimovic and Godin would add vital experience and quality to the Rossoneri squad. Gazidis blocked the arrival of the duo due to their age over 30. In the end, Gazidis won, Ibra stayed in America while Inter managed to sign Godin instead.

In addition, Elliot has decided to make Gazidis omnipotent in the transfer market. Every final decision regarding summer signings must have Gazidis’ approval. The purchase of Everton Soares is the latest issue that has caused a confrontation between Leonardo and Gazidis. At the moment, the CEO has halted the singing of the Brazilian left winger.

Gazidis sphere of influence has extending to the sporting area, crossing Leonardo’s ambit, a professional who admittedly loves to act and feel free. According to various reports Leonardo will resign shortly after the season has ended. A decision to be taken by Leonardo rather than the club.
